There are a few things better than a walk through the Forest of a crisp and clear winter’s day, suited and booted in your wellies and scarf.
We spend so much time wrapped up inside during the colder months, that we forget a nice walk outside can do us the world of good.
With miles of beautiful New Forest walks available across the whole Forest, we recommend embracing the next blue sky you see, and get out of the house to appreciate the breath-taking sights on offer.
The New Forest has many planned walking routes, meaning anyone of any age or ability can enjoy themselves. One of our favourites starts in Brockenhurst Village, not far from our hotel, and 5 miles long.
This route covers roads, woodland, grassy paths and gravel tracks. It is generally an easy walking route with just a few gentle inclines. However some of the woodland tracks can get muddy – so those wellies are a must!
The views are spectacular on this route, especially is you manage to choose a cloudless day. Ober water is also a great area for a little rest – the stream flows very gently, providing a peaceful backdrop for a moment to relax.
Another favourite of ours is called the ‘Standing Hat Circular Walk’, which is 3 miles long. Starting at the Hollands Wood campsite, the walk takes you through the Forestry Commission managed enclosures, and gives you a great opportunity to see wildlife, including the infamous New Forest ponies.
Find out more about all the walking routes available including the ones we’ve mentioned by visiting the New Forest National Park walking route page, right here.
