Isobel and Chris tied the knot at Careys Manor on 16th February. Hear about how their day went...
We got engaged at West Green House Gardens, near where we live in Hook, on 17th Sept 2016. Chris had designed the engagement ring, with help from the lovely jewellers at Petra Jewellery, but didn’t want the responsibility of hiding it for too long. So the next day he insisted we went to the West Green House Gardens as soon as they opened! He found a little seating area in the trees and proposed! It was a complete surprise, as he gave no indication he was even thinking about it. I grinned all the way around the gardens.
We had previously booked a spa weekend for my birthday, which was fantastic. We were also upgraded to the bridal suite, because it was my birthday, which impressed us. The whole experience left such a nice feeling that we were delighted when we discovered they hosted weddings!
After trying on roughly 20 dresses, I found my dress while on a day out at the Unravel festival in Farnham. A friend spotted the sign for the Farnham Boutique and we thought we’d just have a look, as we had half an hour left on the parking ticket. The first one I tried on was perfect, and by that time I knew what I was looking for. It was comfortable (which was a requirement that continually dismayed my bridesmaids), sparkly and fitted well even before the alterations. The people at Farnham Boutique were so lovely and helpful that I’m really glad I got my dress from them.
Chris wore a blue checked Hugo Boss suit, with a silver-grey waistcoat. It only took him one day to find it, which I was jealous of.
They were my little sister Kate Allan and friends Jess Hocking and Jo Penny. After traipsing around London on a very wet Saturday, we found the ‘Jasper’ dress by ChiChi in Debenhams. They all looked fantastic in the navy dresses and we even convinced Jo that a variable length hem was a good idea. They all looked stunning!!
The ceremony was perfect. We decided not to read our own vows, to give as little chance of going wrong as possible, but we did have out very good friend Nikki read the “Lovely Love Story” by Edward Monkton. She even had dinosaur props, which was a lovely surprise!
The music was a bit non-standard, because a lot of it came from Chris’s love of Japanese animation and French electronic music, but it worked for us.
After the superb meal at Careys Manor (where the bride managed not to get any of the beetroot starter on her dress), we had the Reel Good Times ceilidh band play 2 hour long sets. It went brilliantly! Everyone loved it and had a go!
We choose Owen of Little Lillies to do our flowers because he does such a great job of dressing Careys Manor. For the bouquets we had sea holly, white rose and eucalyptus. The button holes were sea holly and the tables had beautiful manuka trees draped with white flowers. It was all beautiful!
We choose a generally blue/woodland theme, with penguins and polar bears dotted around the place.
The day went perfectly! Nothing went wrong and we both had a fantastic time! Everyone at Careys was so helpful and made the day seemless. We can’t thank you enough.
Surprise dinosaurs and my mug of tea that my bridesmaid Jo made sure I got 😊 Lots of great food, dancing and happy feelings. Also getting Chris to pose for photos, which he hates doing!
