Real Weddings | Ian & Mark

15th Jan 2019

You just know when two people are meant for each other. Here's Ian and Mark's story from their gloriuos day on 18th August.

The Proposal

The setting is London – Ian took Mark to his home town of London where we had a day of sightseeing doing all the touristy landmarks where in his mind he had it all planned to go to the Sky Garden at dusk. So that we can overlook the City where Mark was brought up (Unbeknown to Ian this has to be booked in advance, a note to any other couples that are planning to propose,  if you want to propose in the sky garden in London book in advance). So with that very disappointing start there was only one other place to go and that was the nearest pub, over a bottle of wine and a lot of nervous chit chat from Ian, Ian then proposed! We then celebrated after the bottle of wine by going to Chinatown to have a Chinese all you can eat buffet for £10.99 per person.

Why did you choose Careys Manor Hotel for your wedding?

After staying at Carey’s Manor for a valentine spa break. Where better than Carey’s manor to hold our wedding? From the first day we checked in – by Suzi. The welcome was so warming. We had an amazing 2 night stay over this Period. It was at this point we said to each other I wonder what this place is like for weddings. With that in mind we approached the hotel to see what they could offer us.

We kept a very open mind on what we wanted for our wedding and in which direction it would go in, and yes we have seen many other hotels. But every time we kept on referring back to Carey’s Manor, so we went with our hearts and booked our first love for our wedding being Carey’s Manor.

The Groom's Outfit

Both Grooms wore a Royal Blue 3 piece Ted Baker morning suit with peacock lining inside the jacket and waistcoat, with a gold paisley tie with matching gold paisley pocket square, along with a white Ted Baker double cuff shirt with matching sapphire and diamond cufflinks (as these were our birthstones) For our footwear we wore Brown shoes with matching yellow socks to go with the sunflower theme. We also had matching LIGE watches with a brown strap and blue face matching the rest of the outfit.

The Father of the Grooms (Ken Mcpherson and Enrique Loriguillo) and the Best Men (our brothers Mark Armstrong and Steven Loriguillo) wore the same Royal Blue 3 piece Ted baker suit with a blazer jacket with peacock lining. They all had matching yellow socks and Blue Paisley ties and pocket squares along with matching brown shoes and blue paisley cufflinks.

The Bridesmaids

Emma Loriguillo (Marks Big Sister) was also our Maid of Honour; she wore a stunning full length Royal Blue off the shoulder dress that flows when she walks, with Diamonds going down the right hand side of the dress. The style complimented both Ian and Marks Suits.

The Ceremony

The Ceremony was held in the Lounge it’s a beautiful room with its warmth rustic feel that was perfect for our wedding,  which on our first visit to Carey’s we fell in love with. This room was very cosy, intimate and the perfect size for our 60 wedding guests. With the additions of the rustic Arches supplied By Owen the resident florist, on the arches we had fairy lights going around them with sunflowers on alternate sides, along with jugs of sunflowers in them placed on top of wooden logs and rustic love heart lanterns with ivory carpet down the aisle, with LED up lighting around the room.

The wedding party entered the Lounge starting with our Paige Boy (Jamie) and Flower Girl (Sophia) followed by the maid of honour and then by Mark’s Dad and Ian’s Mum, then Marks Mum and Ian’s Dad followed by the Best Men Mark and Steven and then Ian and Husband Mark. Going down the AisleWe had Claire Manners on saxophone playing “I Can’t Help Falling in Love” – by Elvis Presley. During the signing we had “Close to You” – by the Carpenters, and “Marry you” – By Bruno Mars. After the emotional service we then went back up the aisle to “Time Of My Life” – By Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.

The Reception

The Drinks reception was held on Careys Manors front Lawn to the sounds of Claire manners on saxophone whilst drinking Pimms and Peach Bellini and we had garden games for the guests’ entertainment which went down well.

The evening reception was held in the Cedar Suite with entertainment provided by resident DJ Toby Oakley – Who was fantastic throughout. We had our cake cutting which was designed as a tree log – to follow our rustic theme, with our initials carved in and our cat (Tiger) climbing up the log supplied by Helen Shaw at Vanilla Pink Cakes. We also done a surprise Mr and Mr game to entertain the guests before going into our first dance songs “This is my now” by Jordin Sparks and “My Everything” By Anastacia with the additional dry ice it looked like we were dancing on cloud 9.

The Flowers

Our Main flower was the Sunflower; we chose this a healthy looking flower giving a lot of goodness with its natural Oils and are considered a fun and vibrant flower that brings happiness to all. So with that the button holes, flower girl and maid of honour bouquets were Sunflowers. These were supplied by Corbins Florist in Brockenhurst. The flowers in the Manor suite being supplied by the resident florist Owen Lavin from Little Lillies were bronze Antirrhinum on a forest log arrangement for the top table and Dark Brown Manzanita trees with the Bronze Antirrhinums hanging from the branches. We also picked up some of our own sunflowers from the local sunflower farm in Hinton which went on top of our rustic table plan ladder.

Tell us about the decor

We went for a rustic theme and the reasoning behind this is that Carey’s Manor is in the heart of the New Forest. So being rustic lent itself to that. With Carey’s Manor being Natural in woods and ambiance it was only fitting that we had the wonderful rustic theme. Which we felt worked very well. From Owens Arches and Haynes Wood Revival LOVE sign, the wooden backdrop for the cake and top table. Along with the forest table decoration for the top table and Manzanita trees for the centrepieces for the guests tables. Even to the point of having our tables named after trees from the New Forest such as the queen of the Forest Knightwood Oak, Redwood and Cedar to name a few.

How do you feel the day went?

The day was 100% what we expected and more from meeting Francoise on the morning of the wedding to seeing the ceremony room for the first time. The wedding ceremony was emotional for us and all the guests. The guard of honour using our eco friendly confetti that looked like yellow petals. The Pimms on the lawn and the canapés with mini fish and chips, goat’s cheese balls and French cheese choux pastries, which were all truly scrumptious. The master of ceremony – Wazed Basha was truly amazing and at our side throughout the day. The wedding breakfast food and service was above 5 star standards. It ran like clockwork it was truly fascinating to see how much hard work every single staff member put into making sure our day was to the highest standard and we cannot fault it at all. We are Proud and honoured to introduce our guests to the wonders Carey’s manor has to offer.

Any particular memories that stand out that you would like to share?

Francoise, she is by far the best wedding co ordinator in the whole of Dorset and Hampshire. She is a true Gemstone she always listens to every need and made us feel welcomed from our very first meeting. We can always trust her and she never let us down. We had the most exceptional experience. There are so many memories that stand out from our day. We are lucky enough to have captured most of them as we had Bryony Curtis-Turner from BCT Videos capturing our day so we can relive those special moments for time and time again. As with most weddings it’s very difficult to highlight certain parts of the day when EVERYTHING stood out. But the one thing that stands out the most for me (Ian) is the amount of crying I did as it was very emotional and the surprise that my husband Mark did his amazing speech.  The one thing that stood out for me (Mark) was becoming united with my one true soul mate and best friend that I cannot live without just saying those words “I Do” were the best words that had come out of my mouth whilst stood in front of my Chicken.

To start planning your dream wedding at Hampshire wedding venue, Careys Manor Hotel, book a peronal show around with our wedding Coordinator Francoise. Our next wedding open day is 27th January 2019 so pop a note in your diary and we'll look forward to welcoming you then.
