Hotel Porter

Type – Full time (40 hours per week), with a rota operating on 5 out of 7 days per week, including weekends.

Reports to – Head Porter

Location – Careys Manor Hotel is located in the beautiful village of Brockenhurst, nestled between the New Forest National Park and the Solent. With 77 plush bedrooms and suites, the award-winning SenSpa and 3 onsite restaurants, we pride ourselves on our friendly staff and attentive service. Situated 5 minutes’ walk from Brockenhurst Village and train station with excellent rail links to Bournemouth, Southampton and London. The New Forest is a lovely setting with ponies, deer and other animals roaming throughout the Forest and its villages, and beautiful surroundings.

With an unprecedented interest in Staycations and UK weddings this Summer, we are now seeking an exceptionally polite and courteous hotel porter to join our friendly Front of House team.  You will provide a warm welcome alongside the reception team to ensure our guests experience a seamless check-in/check-out service. You will be expected to provide professional and informative guidance for guests visiting the hotel, with the aim of always exceeding customer expectations. Duties will include taking guests and luggage to rooms, parking guest cars, setting up conference rooms, assisting with food & beverage service and dealing with guest requests in an efficient and courteous manner.

  • Have excellent knowledge of the local area and attractions in order that you can provide guests with appropriate information and recommendations

  • Be flexible and committed to working in a team environment
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Have a good understanding of the English language
  • Be familiar with Health & Safety and Fire Safety legislation
  • Be familiar with Opera/Fidelio booking system (not essential)

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a Porter is always available in Reception to assist guests
  • Greet guests in a friendly and professional manner
  • Park guest cars and inform them of the parked location
  • Show guests and luggage to their rooms promptly
  • Ensure all left luggage is stored in the luggage room, is correctly labelled and the room is kept tidy and locked at all times
  • Print and update daily arrivals list using Opera
  • Maintain awareness of arrivals and scheduled functions/events
  • Assist in the set-up of conference rooms
  • Provide a support service to bar staff in provision of beverages to guests and conferences
  • Have knowledge of hotel facilities and correctly communicate these to guests
  • Have knowledge of local attractions and assist guests as required
  • Deal with requests in an efficient and courteous manner
  • Ensure a high standard of personal presentation ensuring uniform is clean and tidy at all times
  • Maintain an excellent level of customer service at all times
  • Follow Health & Safety and company procedures and guidelines
  • Act in accordance with the Hotel’s fire plan
