We were on a family safari holiday in South Africa. Bob proposed on an afternoon game drive in the most idyllic and romantic setting in front of a lake while the sun was setting. I was so stunned I forgot to say yes! It was all the more special as our three boys were with us when Bob proposed.
Why did you choose Careys Manor Hotel for your wedding?
We had people travelling from all over and the majority of our guests were staying. A lovely location was therefore a major consideration. The New Forest was high on our list. My manager had mentioned she had travelled from their home in London specifically to get married at Careys Manor and we should take a look. We walked in and immediately knew we had found our venue after weeks of looking!
It was a Pronovia dress from Brides of Southampton, very fitted, simple but elegant, with a low back and swooping train. I LOVED IT and felt amazing!
The Groom's outfit
Bob and the male members of the bridal party wore matching grey three piece suits with ivory ties.
Sue and Janet wore matching full length dressed from Quiz in a mocha and cream colour with some subtle beading, in a style that complemented them both.
The ceremony was held in The Lounge. It’s a beautiful room with a warm, rustic feel to it. Guests positioned themselves in the chairs provided and on the sofas dotted all around the room which made it all really intimate.
Our wedding breakfast was held in the Manor Suite. The guests had a choice of three alternatives to each course.
The food and service was superb, and commented upon throughout the day by our guests. We moved onto the Cedar Suite for the evening reception. It had been set up almost immediately after the wedding breakfast so we didn't have to wait around. With only one wedding at Careys each day and using three of the rooms for different parts of the day it really felt like we had the hotel to ourselves!
What flowers did you choose?
We choose very simplistic hand tied rose bouquets. My bouquet was in ivory and the bridesmaids had smaller versions of mine with quicksand roses Tell us about the décor you chose: The wedding breakfast was held in the Manor Suite.
The room looked stunningly elegant with cream banqueting covered chairs complete with ivory sashes. The table stationary followed a rustic theme and the Hydrangea trees formed the centre piece for the tables How do you feel the day went?: We simply had the best day of our lives!
Any particular memories from your Wedding Story that stand out that you would like to share?
Apart from my husband's speech which I think I cried through most of, the ceremony was simply beautiful and a real highlight. The guest lounge is such a cosy, intimate room and to walk in and see all our closest friends and family all seated there was so very overwhelming and emotional. It was made all the more special by the lovely registrar we were fortunate to have assigned to us. She was eloquent and professional and so very warm and friendly.
The weather was amazing, unseasonably warm with clear blues skies the entire day! With the gorgeous weather Angus and Lorella moved our post ceremony drinks reception outside which was a lovely surprise and added to the whole ambiance of the day Françoise’s meticulous preplanning and constant liaising with us in the months leading up to the wedding meant that the day was flawless and perfect .
We were made to feel extremely special throughout the day and many of our guests commented that it had been the best wedding venue they had ever been to! Our wedding photographer Alisa Roberts too added so much to our day and was a real hit with our guests! Another true professional oozing charisma!
Many of our guests stayed overnight and the hotel set up a function room for us to all have breakfast together the morning after our wedding! This was a lovely end to the celebration. The day was everything and more that we had hoped it would be and we take precious memories from every part of the day. A big thank you to you all!
