Sunil Kanjanghat | General Manager

Born and raised in Southern India in Chennai, Madras, Sunil’s first experiences into hospitality were as a young man working in his father’s café. “My father was a very successful businessman and this inspired me to follow in his footsteps and pursue a career in hospitality.”

After completing his studies at university in Business Management and Hospitality, Sunil began working at the 5 star Sheraton Hotel Group as Food and Beverage Supervisor before moving to the UK in 2001.

His first job in the UK was as Food and Beverage Supervisor at Le Meridien Hotel in Piccadilly, London. After 3 years he was appointed Deputy Restaurant Manager for the Macdonald’s Hotel Group before being promoted to Restaurant Manager, heading up the opening of a brand new restaurant at the Castle Hotel in Windsor.

In 2006 Sunil left London for country living in the New Forest and began working at Careys Manor, as Restaurant Manager. In 2008 he completed his Diploma in Level 5 Management and Leadership at Bournemouth and Poole College before moving to The Montagu Arms Hotel as Operations Manager in 2009.

During his 11 years at The Montagu Arms, Sunil’s career grew from restaurant manager to General Manager. He saw the hotel go from 3 to 4 Black Stars, and most recently, 4 Silver Stars, before being appointed as General Manager at Careys Manor in 2017. 

Sunil’s attention to detail and approachable manner has been the key to his success in the company. In terms of his management style he believes there is no difference between internal and external customers, saying “your first customer is your staff. You should treat your staff like you treat your guests.”

Sunil will never accept second best. He’s driven by a desire to ensure people have a good experience and treats his guests like they are members of his own family.

Sunil was recently acknowledged for his comittment to great customer service by being crowned the regions Customer Service Superstar at this year's Beautiful South Awards, a glittering event celebrating the best in the tourism industry.
