A warm and spacious restaurant, a relaxing ambiance, attentive staff and delicious food all make for a special occasion.
Our feast started with warm fresh bread, and a deliciously creamy parsnip veloute courtesy of the chef served in a coffee cup. It was smooth, creamy, delicately flavoured and piping hot.
Starters
Being fish lovers the choice of starters was a delight. The scallops were cooked to perfection accompanied by pear and hazelnut presenting the palate with a variety of delectable tastes. My husband opted for the ‘meatier’ taste of mackerel beautifully presented and very fresh.
Main courses
Expectations by now were extremely high and we were not remotely disappointed. The lamb was without doubt the most succulent and tender lamb that I have ever tasted, cooked to perfection and accompanied with baby vegetables although the potato gnocchi were delicious they would not have been my accompaniment of choice. The monk fish was succulent, fresh and tender with vegetables done to perfection.
Desserts
The cheeseboard was a real treat, five cheeses were selected and displayed from the mildest to the strongest accompanied by a selection of fine crackers and accompaniments. My personal favourite was the Buxton which was very strong but’ superb with a glass of port. My husband who doesn’t usually ‘do ‘dessert made quick work of a deliciously creamy vanilla panna cotta served with ice cream.
We were by now too full to manage anything else, the whole meal had been beautifully presented, very flavoursome, fresh and frankly absolutely delicious. Service had been attentive but not intrusive, we were made to feel special guests and look forward to a return visit.
